Girls Weekend

I started writing this post several weeks ago and never got around to finishing it, however I feel that it deserves to be finished so here goes...

So my son and my hubby took off this weekend on a boys backpacking trip in the Ouachita Mountains, so it's just me and my girls this weekend.  I've been sick for the past three days and so are the two youngest, so we've pretty much just been laying in bed watching girlie movies and eating junk food.  Pretty much doing the same thing we'd be doing if we were not sick!

I really have some great kids, I mean REALLY they are truly the best, but right now I just want to talk about my oldest.  I know I spend a LOT of time on here going on and on about all the silly and cute things my kids do, but I don't spend enough time on here talking about just how wonderful they are, and my oldest truly is wonderful.  She constantly helps me with the little girls and the housework.  She loves to cook and help me out in the kitchen.  She loves girly movies and shows about fashion (she's the only one who actually enjoys watching "What Not To Wear" and "Say Yes To The Dress" with me).

She is turning into quite the young lady.  I love to do her  hair, her nails, her make up.  I love to be able to teach her all the fun things about becoming a lady.  I love watching girly movies with her.

I love her freckles, and how her face lights up when she smiles (and not the I'm smiling for a photo smile, but the REAL smile).  She has always had such a sweet loving spirit about her.  She is a giver.

The other day my memory flashed back to when she was around 5-6 years old.  She is on a video coming up to me giving me flowers she picked.  She says in her sweet baby voice "mommy I picked these for you."  I started bawling.  She is NOT a baby any more, she is a young lady, and she is gorgeous, and I am so very proud of her.  I'm so fortunate to be her mother, and I'm so fortunate to have a good relationship with her.  I pray it stays that way over the upcoming "teen" years.  I pray also that I can be a nurturing Godly mother to her, and give her everything she needs, but not everything she wants.

I love my kids with all my heart and everything that is in me (all four of them).  When I had my first and got pregnant with my second I wondered how I could possibly love another as much as I love the first, but your heart grows and makes double the space for that second one, and you love them just as much as the first, and so on and so on.  I thank the Lord for each one of my children, my son and my three beautiful girls.

The Renaissance Fair

Ah, spring has sprung and thus our families outdoor adventures begin.

Let me start by saying I'm not very good at spontaneity.  I usually need at LEAST a days advance notice to do any sort of outing.  However I'm TRYING to be less of a whiney brat more adventurous when it comes to doing things spur of the moment.

This morning before church, my husband suggested that we go to the renaissance fair down in Norman.  To his surprise I said sure.  I quickly put together enough food and bottles to quickly get us through the afternoon and evening and we were off.

After church we ran through McDonalds drive through for a quick bite, then we headed south to Norman.  We got there and found free parking.  Three people pulled in directly behind us, oh well, we would have to worry about HOW to get out of the place later.  As soon as we were trying to get the little ones in the double stroller we noticed our 7 month old had a massive diaper explosion.  I only have the tiny travel wipes and in my expedited packing I had forgot to bring extra clothes for Lucy.  All I had was a little onesie.  Problem is it was 50 degrees outside.  I manage to salvage the socks from getting any mess on them, I put her in the onesie and found one of Evie's shirts and wrapped her in it as a second layer, then covered her in a thick blanket.  Crisis solved.

Now after our 30 minute poop clean up, we were off to the festival.  I readily admit that I'm a nerd.  I would love to go to comic con, I love sci-fi and all things nerdy.  I draw the line though at dressing up for the renaissance fair.  There are certain extremes that I refuse to go to.  I think I saw more nerds in one place today than I have seen in my entire lifetime combined.  (Sadly I admit that I was eyeing a few of the dresses that have corsets attached to them by the end of the day though some of them were REALLY beautiful....)

My son scored a really cool boomerang, and we got Evie a ribbon that she likes to "ribbon dance" with.  I got to watch my family eat two giant turkey legs (I tried a bite but it was too greasy for my liking).  Myah paid to jump on a bungee cord trampoline thing.  Problem is it was about a 45 minute wait.  By this time both girls were exhausted and in total meltdown mode.  Daddy graciously took the girls to the car while I waited it out with Myah.  After a long afternoon both little ones fell asleep in the car.   Problem with this is Evie hadn't gone to the restroom and ended up peeing in her car seat...

Sigh.  I've had quite enough pee and poop drama for the day and my feet are throbbing.  I'm so glad to be at home in my sweats knowing I have a Papa Murphy's ready to go pop in the oven whenever I so desire!

Next time my husband wants me to be spontaneous, I need to let him know I need at least a three days notice.

Two Year Old Logic

Ok, I'm gonna warn you that the following story is a bit gross, so for those who are a bit squeamish, I'd advise you to stop reading now.  For the others who continue to read, you have been warned.

My two year old (soon to be three) woke up from her nap.  I went into her bedroom and I noticed a pretty nasty smell in there.  I walked over to the source of the smell and it was the trash can.  It was sitting next to her bed.

I was pretty grossed out to see that she had peed and pooped in the trash can.

When I asked her why she pooped in her trash can she said "I couldn't poop in my bed."

I can't argue with that logic.

Sad Sickly Bunch

Here at our household we have been a sad sickly bunch this week.  I guess that is just par for the course when you have such a large family, one person gets sick and just passes it along to everyone else in the family.

Last Sunday my hubby came down with this nasty stomach virus that has been going around.  I just KNEW everyone in the house would get it because frankly that stuff is just extremely contagious.

Thursday rolls around and I figured that since nobody else had gotten sick that we were home free.

I was wrong.

Thursday some flu virus hit me, however it wasn't the stomach bug, it was the fever, chills, stuffy nose, sore throat kind of fever.  I went to school that day (only because I had a midterm to take) came home and spent the rest of the day in bed.   Friday I woke up feeling slightly better which is good because hubby and the son were headed off for a weekend backpacking trip.  Problem is that the two little girls were snotty and gross.  My 2 year old came to me pitifully that morning and said "mommy, I have yuckies in my nose just like you."

So sad.  Well, so since none of us were feeling well we just sat around and watched girlie movies and ate junk food (pretty much did the same thing we would have done if we hadn't have been sick).

Yesterday Lucy the littlest was getting really fussy, she didn't seem to want to eat and was just really cranky.  I had taken her to a well check a week ago and the doc said there was a little fluid in her ears, so he called her in a prescription to have in case we needed it.  He said not to give it to her though unless I thought she needed it (no need to give antibiotics if she can fight it on her own).  Yesterday I figured that she may need the antibiotic after all, so I went and had it filled.  She went down to bed around 7pm refusing a bottle.

Around 10pm my oldest and I were enjoying the ridiculous movie "Kate and Leopold"  (don't judge me) when I heard Lucy start to whimper in her crib.  I went in there to get her and realized she was throwing up all over the place.  I quickly grabbed her and turned her over so she wouldn't gag, and brought her over the toilet in our room.  It took me two seconds to realize that something wasn't quite right, she was white as a sheet and a bluish/green color and her eyes were dialated all strangely, and I realized she wasn't breathing right.  I immediately called 911.

By the time the ambulance got here she was breathing more normal, but was still really pale.  They checked her vitals though and all seemed fine.  Color finally started returning to her cheeks.  They asked me if I wanted to have them take her in and I decided not to, that if I needed to go I'd take her on my own.  I think she was just pale from a stomach bug and from throwing up.  I may have over-reacted, however you can't be too careful because she is so little!

I let her sleep in my bed all night and she didn't throw up again.  My mother in law came up to my house to be here in case I decided to take her to the hospital.  By the next day Lucy was eating, laughing, and playing and doing just fine.  That was a HUGE relief.

My two year old threw up yesterday, and my poor nephew who came to visit for spring break wasn't feeling well either yesterday.  I think I totally ruined his spring break by getting him sick.  I feel horrible. My son started feeling yicky last night and I'm still not 100% better.  I'm not sure WHAT this thing is that we all have but it's pretty darn nasty!  Hopefully it will be over soon!
